Students would be observing orthoptics as they assess babies and small children for defects of vision including children with special needs, treat adults suffering from double vision associated with other conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, neurological conditions e.g. multiple sclerosis, ensure speedy rehabilitation of patients who have suffered stroke and acquired brain injuries and have vision problems and assess visually impaired patients for low vision aids. Applicants should be aware that we offer a highly specialised Orthoptics service only and therefore this placement is not suitable to help applicants decide whether they wish to pursue a career in medicine. Only applicants who are contemplating Orthoptics as a career will be considered for this placement.

You will be required to attend an induction session before your placement, we will book you onto a session in line with your placement start date.

Report at 9.15am in the Orthoptic department, A floor, QMC and ask for Nicola Akerman.

Due to the demand for work experience placements, all work experience applicants must be Nottinghamshire residents or attend full-time education in Nottinghamshire. Applicants must attend an induction before they can attend the placement.

Students must be applying for the Orthoptics Degree at Liverpool or Sheffield University. Only applicants who are contemplating Orthoptics as a career will be considered for this placement.

If you are successful, we can only co-ordinate one placement per person, per academic year, through the directory of placements. This is due to the demand for placements.
