Bowel Cancer Screening Programme-Eastern Hub

The Eastern Bowel Cancer Screening Programme looks after the screening service for the East England, working in conjunction with 4 other screening Hubs within England.
The Hub consists of a laboratory, national helpline and admin area, providing a range of tasks to look at and to add some variety to the placement.
Students will be able to have hands on experience carrying out some specimen reception duties and will be able to shadow in the main laboratory to see the role of the Biomedical Scientist and Associate Practitioners. They will have the opportunity to observe in both the admin and helpline areas to see the processes that take place outside of the lab.
The department is UKAS accredited with it’s own quality team therefore the student will have to opportunity to look at quality processes, audits and non-conformities.

Smart, casual with comfortable footwear. No open toed or backless shoes and long hair tied up when working in the lab.


Available all year except January which is a particularly busy time of year and December as it is particularly quiet and the student will not get as much from the placement during these times.
