Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service

The Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service provides support to children who have speech, language and communication needs across the Nottingham City and County. Care is provided in the most appropriate setting for each child.

Students must be considering studying SLT at University. This placement is not relevant for those applicants who wish to study medicine and become a doctor as the role of a doctor is very different to the role of an SLT. This placement takes place at community locations and does not take place in a hospital setting.

Students may work in clinics, schools or homes or may observe telehealth (video) appointments via Microsoft Teams with the team that is providing the placement. They will also have the opportunity to observe assessment/ therapy/ clinical administrative duties (i.e. record keeping etc.). Students may need to travel to team bases in different areas of the City / County of Nottinghamshire.

**Please note that there may be a requirement to travel in Trust staff member's vehicles as part of this work experience placement**

Smart dress. Flat comfortable shoes. Bare below the elbows. Long hair tied back and only one set of stud earrings, no other jewellery.


Applicants need to be interested in SLT as a career, either studying A levels or equivalent, unless a mature student with different qualifications.

Due to the demand for work experience placements, all work experience applicants must be Nottinghamshire residents or attend full-time education in Nottinghamshire. Applicants must attend an induction before they can attend the placement.

Please note that the application process normally takes 8 weeks so please allow a minimum of 8 weeks between applying and the dates required.

If you are successful, we can only co-ordinate one placement per person, per academic year, through the directory of placements. This is due to the demand for placements.
