Children's Community Nursing Service


Clinical


There are 4 teams within the service.

- Children’s Community Nursing Team are a team of children’s nurses, including a learning disability nurse, working in the community with children and young people living with a life limiting or life-threatening illness. The team aims to deliver a multidisciplinary approach to care focussing on family; empowering families and helping them to lead a normal life. The team provides acute nursing care to children and young people from 0 -18yrs or 19 yrs for complex health needs CYP. We undertake nursing care for children within their own homes or in school, this includes accessing central lines, administering intravenous medications, gastrostomy care, assessment and monitoring of a variety of acute and complex health needs.

- Children's Community Training Team who provide training for community carers; they are a group of nurses who have developed and had ratified, standard packages for non-qualified staff.
We deliver training to staff in areas such as education or social care settings to allow specific care needs to be met in those areas and ensuring those staff feel supported and confident to deliver care. The training packages offer theory sessions to allow safe delivery of care ensuring the child or young person`s safety and reducing clinical risk.

- Children's Complex Healthcare Team who care for children with complex health needs within a school environment at Oakfield School. The team work alongside Education to ensure that the health needs of the children and young people with learning difficulties and complex health care needs are met on a 1:1 basis, allowing them to access education.

- Phlebotomy Team who obtain bloods from children who require this for a variety of tests for diagnosis or monitoring of conditions. This service is to enable children and young people, from the age of 1 year to 13 years, to have their blood taken in a child friendly environment. We also offer phlebotomy services to children over the age of 13 years who have a registered complex health need.

**Please note that there may be a requirement to travel in Trust staff member's vehicles as part of this work experience placement**

Smart dress, no trainers.
Jewellery should be minimal and discreet.
School/college lanyard to be worn at all times.
Must have had Covid, MMR and whooping cough vaccinations and be able to evidence this.
