Theatres/Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)

Students will spend time shadowing Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) working inside operating theatres. They will have the opportunity to observe ODPs in their roles in anaesthetics, scrub and recovery.

If eligible to enter a theatre area, students will be expected to wear a green scrub suit and a theatre hat, which will be provided.

You will be required to attend an induction session before your placement, we will book you onto a session in line with your placement start date.

Nottingham City Hospital


On the first day of the placement, report to the Theatre Education and Development office at QMC. Easiest access to theatres at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) is via the main entrance of the hospital B-Floor. Once on the corridor via this entrance, turn left and follow the corridor to the lifts/stairs, go up to C-Floor and ask at theatres reception, who will guide you to the Education Office.

This placement is only suitable for those applicants wishing to pursue a career as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). This placement is at the QMC.
