Nottingham City Hospital (NUH)

Dietetics and Nutrition, City Campus.

Clinical

Students will spend one day with our busy dietetic department. The morning will be spent shadowing a qualified dietitian – this may involve visiting patients on wards or observing an outpatient clinic. You are likely to observe several patients receiving dietetic treatment. You may encounter patient conditions that are upsetting or of a medical nature.
The afternoon will involve a small group session with other dietetic work experience students where you will have 2-3 different dietitians delivering presentations or practical sessions highlighting other areas of dietetics.
Any requests for specific areas to shadow will be considered but may not be able to be accommodated.
Time will be given for you to ask dietitians about their jobs and their dietetic training.
Please note that the morning session will be at City Hospital but the afternoon session will be at QMC Campus. Adequate time will be given to have lunch and travel to QMC for City-based students. The Medilink bus provides regular transport between the two hospital sites but you are likely to have to pay £1.20 (as of July 2023) as an under 19 single fare. Staff receive free travel with ID so you could show your work experience ID to see whether this is accepted.
