Widening Access to Medical School (WAMS) Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine, Ward C52


Clinical


Work experience students would join the Diabetes and Endocrine team for 4 days (Monday-Thursday). Applicants will join the ward junior doctors on medical ward rounds and see the day-to-day ward activities. Applicants will be able to attend outpatients clinic in the speciality areas of Diabetes and Endocrinology. Other opportunities include seeing speciality referrals across the hospital, meeting the extended team and attending multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and observing medical student teaching.

Please note that this placement is not a specific training or teaching placement but a real taste of what life is like in Diabetes and Endocrinology.


Nottingham City Hospital


On the first day of the placement please report at 8.50am to the Diabetes Unit Reception, C Floor, South Block, Queen’s Medical Centre, Derby Road.

Flat comfortable shoes. Bare below the elbows. Long hair tied back and only one set of stud earrings, no other jewellery.


This placement is only suitable for those applicants wishing to follow a career as a doctor. They should have evidence of likely attainment of the requisite academic ability to apply for medical school. Placements can only be offered to those who are, as a minimum, in Year 12 (or equivalent).

Due to the demand for work experience placements, all work experience applicants must be Nottinghamshire residents or attend full-time education in Nottinghamshire. Applicants must attend an induction before they can attend the placement.

If you are successful, we can only co-ordinate one placement per person, per academic year, through the directory of placements. This is due to the demand for placements.
