Queen's Medical Centre

Widening Access to Medical School (WAMS) Paediatrics

Clinical

**this placement is only available from mid Sept until mid March**

Nottingham University Hospitals is committed to widening access to medical school. We aim to encourage applications from under-represented groups including care leavers, pupils from lower socio-economic groups, or attending schools with low progression into higher education and those who are the first generation in their family to consider higher education.

This placement is only suitable for those applicants wishing to follow a career as a doctor. They should have evidence of likely attainment of the requisite academic ability to apply for medical school.

Students would join the General Paediatric team for a week and be a part of the day-to-day life of the junior doctors. Applicants will take part in the daily activities of the team and be a part of the paediatric ward round and emergency admissions. They can also experience specialty paediatrics (to be discussed before the placement) and attend outpatients clinics.

No placements available in August due to junior doctors’ changeover.

Due to the demand for work experience placements, all work experience applicants must be Nottinghamshire residents or attend full-time education in Nottinghamshire. Applicants must attend an induction before they can attend the placement.

If you are successful, we can only co-ordinate one placement per person, per academic year, through the directory of placements. This is due to the demand for placements.
