Renal Medicine: Bramley Ward, Carrel Ward & Renal Dialysis Unit


Clinical


Students will observe the clinical assessment of patients receiving haemodialysis on the main dialysis unit and gain experience on the two renal wards.

Students will observe the nurses assessing, planning and implementing the care of the patient receiving their haemodialysis and how the haemodialysis treatment is evaluated. Students will be able to observe how the multi-disciplinary team communicate effectively and work efficiently together, including patients into the decision making. Students will be able to observe how patients can be encouraged to take ownership of their own haemodialysis treatments on the main dialysis unit. They will have the opportunity to observe the care of patients with renal conditions within the ward areas. Hours 8am to 4pm.

Applicants are encouraged to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

You will be required to attend an induction session before your placement, we will book you onto a session in line with your placement start date.

Report to Bramley Ward at 8am.
For the dialysis unit they report to the dialysis unit reception.
For Carrel they report to Carrel ward reception.

Flat comfortable shoes. Bare below the elbows. Long hair tied back and only one set of stud earrings, no other jewellery.



Students should be seriously considering a career as a health practitioner. No placements available last week in August to 1 October.

Due to the demand for work experience placements, all work experience applicants must be Nottinghamshire residents or attend full-time education in Nottinghamshire.

Applicants must attend an induction before they can attend the placement.

If you are successful, we can only co-ordinate one placement per person, per academic year, through the directory of placements. This is due to the demand for placements.
