A one day prospective placement within the department on the following dates only:

During this visit, students will be given an induction and tour of the department by the Practice Educator. Students will shadow Therapeutic Radiographers conducting planning CT scans and delivering radiotherapy treatments to a variety of patients with a cancer diagnosis. Students will have insight into the patient pathway and how they are managed during treatment and the support offered to them.

Students will observe a range of different radiotherapy treatments including SRS, Contact, SABR and Brachytherapy (patient dependant). Applicants should be in Year 12 or 13 if they are still studying at school or college. Hours 8.30am-4pm.

Please be aware of the following:

• Patients may be undressed and some anatomy exposed e.g. breasts or genitalia
• Palliative and unwell patients, who may be confined to a bed or be mentally impaired
• Patients with a tracheostomy
• Patients with speech and language impairments
• Patients with fungating lesions
• Paediatric patients.

Applicants are encouraged to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Smart dress. Flat comfortable shoes. Bare below the elbows. Long hair tied back and only one set of stud earrings, no other jewellery.

The wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required throughout the experience.

Due to the demand for work experience placements, all work experience applicants must be Nottinghamshire residents or attend full-time education in Nottinghamshire. Applicants must attend an induction before they can attend the placement.

If you are successful, we can only co-ordinate one placement per person, per academic year, through the directory of placements. This is due to the demand for placements.
