Adult Speech and Language Therapy

Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) provides assessment, therapy, and support to adults with acquired communication and swallowing impairments across Nottinghamshire. Examples include people with progressive neurological disorders, stroke and dementia.
This work experience will include observation of a Speech and Language Therapist carrying out clinical work and meeting clients as well as discussions about SLT as a career. Applicants may have to travel to different bases in the county (outside Nottingham city).
Hours 9am-1pm for half a day. 9am-4pm for a full day.

70-84 = high
50-69 = moderate
Under 50 = low

The work experience co-ordinator is Sarah Roberts. Sarah.roberts3@nottshc.nhs.uk. She will be the ‘go-between’ but the person who the student will report to on the first day will vary depending on which SLT is taking them that day.

Flat comfortable shoes. Bare below the elbows. Long hair tied back and only one set of stud earrings, no other jewellery.
Applicants need to be interested in SLT as a career, either studying A levels or equivalent, unless a mature student with different qualifications.
Due to the demand for work experience placements, all work experience applicants must be Nottinghamshire residents or attend full-time education in Nottinghamshire. Applicants must attend an induction before they can attend the placement.
If you are successful, we can only co-ordinate one placement per person, per academic year, through the directory of placements. This is due to the demand for placements.
