Students will shadow the team (consultant, registrars, all other junior doctors, nurses, radiographers and other health care professionals) in outpatient clinics and oncology inpatient wards. Students will observe the clinical assessment of cancer patients in outpatient clinics and in wards. Students will observe staff making critical decisions about initiating and continuing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment. Students will learn the importance of patient confidentiality and understand the importance in constantly engaging and involving patients in decisions about their own care even when the disease is as serious as cancer and prognosis is terminal. Students will interact with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and learn about the importance of team work and communication in efficient service delivery. Hours 9.30am-3.30pm.

You will be required to attend an induction session before your placement, we will book you onto a session in line with your placement start date.

Please report to Reception at Oncology Outpatients at 10.45am and explain that you are shadowing Dr Sundar for work experience. Enter Nottingham City Hospital South Entrance (Junction S1 or W4 on the map). Oncology Outpatients is opposite Pharmacy.

Only for students applying to study medicine at university. Students should be able to respect patient confidentiality and privacy.
Due to the demand for work experience placements, all work experience applicants must be Nottinghamshire residents or attend full-time education in Nottinghamshire. Applicants must attend an induction before they can attend the placement.
If you are successful, we can only co-ordinate one placement per person, per academic year, through the directory of placements. This is due to the demand for placements.
